Sanibel Island, Florida

I recently spent three days on Sanibel Island, Florida. Less than an hours (beautiful) drive from Fort Myers Airport, this quant, relaxed town is perfect for anyone looking for a peaceful holiday by the water, away from the party crowds. My friends and I chose to stay at the Tween Waters Island Resort & Spa. Situated on this breath taking island, The Tweens has water front views in the front and back of the property, so you’re almost guaranteed a view of the water wherever you stay on the resort.

With the beach, pools, hot tubs, a spa, free bikes and kayaks, restaurants (and all this is ON the property), the Tweens Resort offers a very excellent and laid-back experience for you and your family. There are also many places where you can rent jet skis, paddle-boards, or go parasailing.

And if this isn’t enough, a few minutes bike ride or drive and you will be met with a plethora of delicious mom & pop restaurants, boutiques, and shops (I loved sporting my cliché tourist shirt!). Does anyone else love commemorating trips with tourist swag? I do! But trust me, you won’t soon forget your trip to this lovable Island! Also, if you or someone in your family is interested in sea shells, fun fact: Sanibel Island is the number ONE shelling beach in the World! I knew this , but I was not expecting the amount that I saw. Wow. And they aren’t just baby shells; it’s not uncommon to find a full size conch amongst the other large variety of shells. Even if it’s not your thing, you won’t be able to deny the beauty of the wild and vast array of shells! Sanibel Island also has a very dense amount of palm trees and beautiful, lush plant life compared to many other parts of Florida. 🌴

Now let’s talk restaurants. 🍽️

We went to a different restaurant each night for dinner. On the first evening we went to RC Otter’s. I recommend the fried grouper with sweet potato fries; it was delicious! If you can, sit outside. You will get to take in the beautiful palm trees and plants all around, and they even have live music at different times (check with them before hand to find out when). It was a very casual and enjoyable experience with good service.

The next night we went to the Island Cow. This place was also very casual (as the majority of restaurants on the island are). Which is nice when you’ve been at the beach all day and you just want some good food and good service without all the pomp. I had the shrimp tacos (very good). I also tried raw oysters for the first time 😝…not a fan, haha. I think it was the grossest thing I’ve ever eaten, but I’m adventurous so I tried them! I definitely recommend the Island Cow, though. The friendly service here blew me away!

The last place we went to was Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grill. This restaurant was slightly less casual than the others. At night, the palms and flames of the tiki lights sway with the breeze and you feel like you’re in paradise! Again, very good service here and a great variety of options on the menu; I was a little overwhelmed. What made the biggest impressions on me as far as food goes was their French fries. I am a French fry enthusiast and I have to say, I think these may have been the best I’ve ever had. I could pretty much go here and just eat those!

We had a very fun and relaxing time vacationing here and I encourage anyone thinking about making Sanibel Island their next getaway to do it! Whether you’re a couple, family, or looking to getaway with some friends, there is something here for everybody.

To Sanibel Island,

Thank you for the memories, the scrumptious food, and the beautiful sights. Until Next time.
